The Honolulu Elks Lodge, during the 2023-2024 year, in the spirit of “Elks Care – Elks Share,” provided funds and volunteer time to a number of non-profit organizations which help the homeless.

The topic is in the local news daily, spoken about by Governor Josh Green, Mayor Rick Blangiardi and countless others in our community. As a caring Elks, have you ever wondered about this question – “What Should I Do When I See/Meet Homeless On the Streets?”

Pastor Paul Gates, Executive Director of the River of Life Mission, a local community based non-profit organization helping the homeless states, “…A simple gesture of acknowledgment – a smile, a greeting, or talking story – can have a profound impact on someone who often feels invisible. These acts of kindness not only affirm their dignity but reflect the compassion that Jesus showed to all he met, regardless of status or situation. Let us remember, that in every person we encounter, there lies an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love, to offer a moment of comfort, and to acknowledge the inherent worth of every individual. By doing so, we become the hands and feet of Jesus on Earth.”

Aloha to all!
